New Mexico History and Ghost Town Adventure
Based at Historic Black Range Lodge B&B
Friday, August 29 – Monday, September 1, 2008

On
this exciting tour from Tucson, we’ll travel to the Old West
community of Kingston, New Mexico where we will take over all
seven bedrooms of the charming Black Range Lodge B&B. All the
bedrooms have a private bath, and the Lodge will provide us with
a hearty sit-down breakfast each morning (included in tour fee).
Kingston was once the home of over 7000 people, and the original
Lodge building was erected in 1887 partially from the ruins of
Pretty Sam's Casino and the Monarch Saloon. Today, Kingston is
the home of about 50 full-time residents. We’ll fix our own
lunches to go, do dinners at local restaurants, and maybe grill
steaks one night in the guest kitchen. En route to Kingston,
we’ll visit the very impressive Geronimo Springs Museum in Truth
or Consequences. We
will do a day trip on the Lake Valley Country Byway to the large
well-preserved ghost town of Lake Valley, site of the first
major silver discovery (1878) in New Mexico. Mines in the Lake
Valley area yielded nearly 6 million ounces of pure silver
between 1881 and 1893. We’ll also travel to Winston, Chloride,
Wall Lake, and ghost town Hillsboro. There will be lots of
museums and historic buildings to see in these Black Range
communities. On the return trip, it’s a visit to the newly
remodeled Western New Mexico University Museum in Silver City.
We will also see the Deming-Luna Mimbres Museum in Deming and
the Geronimo Springs Museum in Truth or Consequences. Tour will
depart on Friday at 6:30 AM from
the Tucson
international Airport Park & Save Remote Parking Lot at S.
Tucson Boulevard and E. Corona Road, where vehicles can be
safely parked for $4 per day. Return
will be to same location on Monday by 6:00 PM.
