Jerome
History Tour with Sunset Train Ride and
Overnight at the Jerome Grand Hotel
Sunday, July
20 – Monday, July 21, 2008
On this summer adventure from Tucson, we’ll base overnight in
COOLER Jerome, Arizona at 5240 feet elevation at the historic
Jerome Grand Hotel. The impressive building was erected in 1926
as the United Verde Hospital serving miners and their families
in the entire Verde Valley
area. On Saturday, it’s lunch in the hotel’s
award-winning Asylum Restaurant (not included in tour fee), a
visit to the Douglas Mansion/Jerome State Historic Park, then
the incomparable sunset 4-hour Verde Canyon Railroad trip from
Clarkdale to Perkinsville and back along the upper Verde River.
Also a visit to Tuzigoot National Monument in Clarkdale to see
the impressive 110-room Sinagua pueblo ruin that was occupied
between A.D. 1000 and 1400 by this agriculturist culture. On
Sunday, it’s some time to roam the many shops and galleries
along the town’s main street. Scenic return trip on Sunday will
be through Wickenburg with a stop at the extensive Desert
Caballeros Western Museum, the “most Western museum in the
West.” In Jerome,
daytime high temperatures will be in the low to mid 80’s, early
mornings in the 60’s.
Tour departs
at 6:30 AM on Saturday from Tucson International Airport Park &
Save Remote Parking Lot at S. Tucson Boulevard and E. Corona
